New Board of Directors leads COACH for 2008-2009

Toronto, ON: COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association is pleased to announce its 2008-2009 Board of Directors, made up of professionals from across Canada who reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of the field.

Linda Miller, Assistant Deputy Minister, Information Strategic Services Division, Alberta Health and Wellness, is the Board Chair and COACH President. The other Board members are:

  • Shelagh Maloney, Executive Director, External Liaison Canada Health Infoway (Past Chair);

  • Neil Gardner, Chief Information Officer, Saskatchewan Health;

  • Lydia Lee, CIO, Shared Information Management Services (SIMS) (President-elect);

  • Dr. Marion Lyver, President, Healthy Futures Inc., and Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Family Medicine, McMaster University;

  • Mike Rigo, Vice-President, Solutions Delivery/Management, Smart Systems for Health Agency;

  • Heather Tabin, Divisional Director, Customer Planning & Services, Manitoba eHealth (Secretary-Treasurer);

  • Gavin Tong, Vice-President, Standards and Interoperability, CHITTA, the Health Division of ITAC;

  • Michael Whitt, Partner, Lawyer & Patent & Trade-mark Agent, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.

“This is an exciting time for COACH and the health informatics field in general,” commented President Linda Miller. “We have an excellent Board to lead the continuing effort to realize the COACH Vision of Taking Health Informatics Mainstream. An increasing number of Canadians recognize the benefits of using information and communications technology to ensure effective and timely healthcare. The momentum in the industry was very evident among the 1,700 participants at our annual e-Health conference, co-hosted with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in Vancouver last week.”

The 2008-2009 Board members assumed their duties at the COACH Annual General Meeting in Vancouver on May 6.
