Courtyard Group Donation Helps Pave the Way for Three Uvic Health Information Sciences Students to Receive Denis and Pat Protti Endowment Fund Awards
In April of this year, Courtyard Managing Partner Dr. Michael Guerriere presented $50,000 to the Denis and Pat Protti Endowment Fund, a fund supported by a number of organizations in the health information community designed to enrich the University of Victoria's School of Health Information Science.
This commitment by Courtyard was in recognition of the leadership of Denis Protti, founder of the University of Victoria’s School of Health Information Science. For the second year in a row, Courtyard's contribution to the fund will help to build the future of healthcare transformation in Canada and will also support the University of Victoria’s School of Health Information Science to attract graduate students to build future capacity in the healthcare industry. The fund is specifically designed to help students in the program develop their health informatics expertise, whether through enabling them to attend conferences they otherwise could not attend or by giving them direct financial support so they can complete their studies.
An extensive and impressive group of students put forth applications this year, and three have been selected to receive awards.
Student Stephanie Ong, a pharmacist entering her third year in the Masters of Health Information Science program received the Endowment Fund’s Student Enrichment Award. This award is given to an undergraduate student for the purpose of facilitating an external educational experience such as a conference or seminar. Stephanie plans to attend the European Society of Clinical Pharmacists’ Annual conference in November where she will be presenting a poster entitled “ePHRx: Comprehensive electronic pharmacy health record for patients with chronic diseases.”
Graduate students Jason Bond and Felicia Pantazi received the Fund’s Graduate Student Awards in recognition of their commitment to advancing the field of health informatics. Jason is entering his second year of the Masters of Health Information Science program and Felicia, an MD, is entering her third year. These winners combine a passion for health informatics with a desire for continued learning, and between them bring impressive experience to the program from a variety of healthcare venues.
Dr. Guerriere commented, “As we look to the next generation to carry on the valuable healthcare transformation efforts already underway, it is critical to support programs that train young people for the challenges ahead.”
Courtyard Group would like to extend sincere congratulations to this talented group of Endowment Fund recipients. The healthcare community in Canada and beyond looks forward to the transformational impact they will have in their chosen disciplines.
