Off the Cuff

Tales from the back room: memories of a political insider by Michael Decter. ISBN 978-1-926531-06-9

Michael Decter’s newest book is out just in time for gift giving. More than 300 people are named so the index alone will be a popular read. The book reveals all about his days in government and we finally find out what it means to be a “Harvard-trained economist.” Look for some colourful stories about creating policy with Pierre Trudeau and Michael Kirby, and creating moments with people like the Pope, the premiers, the Queen and Farley Mowat, to name only a few. This is Decter as an ingenious and captivating story teller. In the process find out how government works on a grand scale in Japan or at a muddy race track or over lunch on a porch – surprisingly without the key players around. Recommended.

Is there a doctor on your radio? A paediatrician? A nurse? A mental health counsellor? A gerontologist? Any one else? (We are creating a list.)

Dr. Brian Goldman is well known for hosting White Coat, Black Art, an award-winning show on CBC Radio. Dr.Peter Lin is routinely interviewed on the program Metro Morning. But there must be (should be!) more clinicians on the radio – local stations, regional stations, or other national programs. Where are you? Let us know please. Write Publisher@longwoods.com
