Abstract
Do patients know what they want when they are hospitalized? Can they determine the criteria for good care, and if so are they able to influence how the care is provided? Do we really need patient input? These questions were posed earlier at an Ontario Hospital Association Conference, titled Patient Satisfaction: Should We Care? A panel consisting of a senior hospital administrator, a physician, a consumer and myself, a nurse, were asked to provide our perspectives on the issues raised. This article examines the nursing perspective, based on my experience working within an acute care setting and a review of literature related to satisfaction with nursing care.
