Abstract

The generic response to "where to from here?" is reformation of much of our healthcare systems, but - to borrow a term used in hospital emergency departments - after triaging, five areas supersede. They are not fresh ideas - all are recommendations from at least several of the reports - but they must be considered a priori, bedrock for what is to come. The areas are health human resources; infrastructure; national centres for health; governance and accountability; and engaging the public.
