Saifur Rahman, Mohsin U. Ahmed and Barket-e-Khuda

Abstract

This study assesses the profile of medicine-sellers in pharmacies of an urban area of Bangladesh, their knowledge on STDs/HIV/AIDS, and practices in managing cases of STDs. In this study, medicine-sellers received clients with STDs, provided treatment and counseling, and also referred patients to the health system. However, they were inadequate in providing appropriate information and treatment. For an effective prevention program on STDs/HIV/AIDS, they can be involved in STD/AIDS prevention education and counseling after substantial strengthening of these programs.
