Abstract

Restricted maternal autonomy affecting child mortality has been explored through decisions relating to treatment generally and for an illness before death for the cases and the most recent illness episode for the controls. Mothers who make decisions themselves regarding seeking treatment for their children provide an environment for survival for their children even in impoverished societies. Support systems need to be instituted within communities to empower mothers to make decisions earlier and on their own. [To view this article, please download the PDF.]
