Paying for Institutional Quality: Reaching the Limits of Funding Policy?

Adam Topp and Mark Hundert

Abstract

In a recent issue of the journal HealthcarePapers, (Vol.6, No.4), Pink and colleagues provide an overview of several issues associated with pay-for-performance. While much of their discussion focuses on the individual provider, the authors also suggest that pay-for-performance may provide an ability to foster quality at the institutional (such as hospitals or home care agencies) and regional (such as regional health authorities) levels.
