Abstract
Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in Canada. Almost 60% of stroke survivors are left with a moderate to severe impairment or are so severely disabled they need long-term care.1 In addition to the toll on a person and his or her family and friends, it is estimated that stroke costs the Canadian economy $2.7 billion a year.2
