Abstract

For health care providers, efficiency is everything. Becoming a low-cost provider without jeopardizing patient care is the Holy Grail of healthcare. So the entire industry is focused on finding ways to cap the rate at which health care costs are increasing. A major part of that effort is finding new internal efficiencies.

In addition, providers are subject to an ever-increasing array of government regulations. Compliance with new laws - everything from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act - invariably places new requirements on the companies and adds to their administrative burden.
