It’s Time for a National Conversation about Long-Term Care Funding
We are very appreciative of the seven thoughtful commentaries on our essay (Adams and Vanin 2016) and of the considerations that they raise. Two common themes cut across them. The first is that we understated the magnitude of the challenge that Canada faces with respect to the aging population and the future need for health and long-term care (LTC) services. The second is that we did not pay sufficient attention to the role of informal care giving and the need to sustain it.
