Overall, Canada’s COVID-19 response has seen measured success compared to the horrific spike in infection and deaths in the United States and elsewhere in the world. It is clear that control of the Canada-U.S. border will remain integral to Canada’s battle against COVID-19.
To be sure, Canada’s response was far from perfect. The disproportionate deaths in our long-term care sector — more than 80 percent of all COVID-related fatalities — is twice the OECD average, reflecting the many challenges that existed in that sector pre-pandemic.
