The Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) has inaugurated the MHI Heart Valve Centre, a pioneering clinical and research facility aimed at becoming an international leader in heart valve treatment and innovation. The centre plans to double the number of patients treated for valve disease by 2028, aided by a $5 million investment from the MHI Foundation for state-of-the-art equipment and research initiatives. Under the leadership of Dr. Walid Ben Ali and with the expertise of Dr. Ralph Stephan von Bardeleben, the centre is set to perform 1,400 procedures annually, positioning it alongside top global institutions. The facility is also a hub for technological development, collaborating with multinationals and Canadian startups to innovate new valve technologies. This comprehensive approach, from human trials to animal testing, is attracting global interest and aims to establish the MHI Heart Valve Centre as one of the top 10 in the world.
