Ms. Carolyn Baker steps down as President and CEO of St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto

TORONTO, January 6, 2012 – St. Joseph’s Health Centre announced today that effective January 13, 2012 Carolyn Baker will be stepping down as President and CEO of St. Joseph’s for health reasons.

Carolyn has been the President and CEO of St. Joseph’s since March 2007 and prior to that served as the Vice President of Clinical and Professional Programs and Services. On behalf of the Health Centre, the Board of Directors wishes to recognize Carolyn’s numerous achievements at St. Joseph’s. Carolyn led the organization through a series of initiatives that led to the significant improvement in the quality of patient care and safety. She also successfully stewarded the $150 million redevelopment of the new Our Lady of Mercy Wing. Carolyn is deeply committed to the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph's and it is through her dedication and leadership that the entire organization is aligned with the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Catholic health care ministry.

Ellen Malcolmson will assume the role of Interim President. Ellen will work with the Senior Leadership Team and the Chief of Staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization while the search for Carolyn’s replacement is underway. Ellen has been a member of the St. Joseph’s Board of Directors since 2008 and most recently served as the Chair of the Quality Committee of the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors will be initiating a search for a new President and CEO.
