Laureate of the 2015 Canada Gairdner Global Health Award addresses audience at the MaRS Centre
TORONTO, Oct. 28, 2015 /CNW/ - (From left to right): Dr. Peter Piot, Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Dr. John Dirks, President and Scientific Director of the Gairdner Foundation, Dr. Heidi Larson, Director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, Mr. Chirfi Guindo, President and Managing Director of Merck Canada Inc., and Dr. Mark Feinberg, President and CEO of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. The group was attending Dr. Piot's presentation "From AIDS to Ebola: Lessons for the future" during the 2015 Gairdner Global Health Symposium held at the MaRS Centre on October 28th, 2015. Dr. Piot is this year's recipient of the Canada Gairdner Global Health Award in recognition of his co-discovery of the Ebola virus, his many contributions to HIV/AIDS research and his continued leadership in the global response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, especially in Africa.
