Keynote Presentation:
Dr. Charles Alessi, Chief Clinical Officer – International, HIMSS
Dr Charles Alessi is a globally recognized and trusted leader in healthcare. He brings to HIMSS a wealth of experience, particularly around health systems and the interface between healthcare, social care and the personalization of wellness. He is a physician in London, with more than 35 years of experience in all aspects of clinical practice in the UK National Health Service. Most recently, he served as the Chairman of the National Association of Primary Care, part of the NHS confederation, where he was at the heart of the recent health and social care reforms.
He is also the Senior Advisor to Public Health England, a position leading thought leadership around productive healthy ageing including dementia, targeting risk reduction. Furthermore, he fulfils key roles in PHE around digital interventions, particularly those that involve behavioral change. Other responsibilites include air quality and antibiotic prescribing. He forms part of the World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Panel that is formulating new guidelines around risk reduction in dementia globally and also leads thought leadership around productive healthy aging. He has extensive experience in military medicine, being a past Medical Director and Director of Clinical Governance for the British forces in Germany and was recently appointed to serve on the Reference Committee tasked with renewing military medicine in the United Kingdom.
He holds a variety of international academic positions both in Europe and the Americas and has published widely in the media and journals. He is an Adjunct Research professor in Clinical Neurosciences at the Schulich School of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, Canada and Visiting Scholar at the Odette School of business in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He continues to advise major corporations and national governments around health and care reform, particularly where systemic reform and digital interventions are being considered.

Bernard Lord, Chief Executive Officer, Medavie
Bernard Lord became Chief Executive Officer of Medavie in September 2016 to provide strategic leadership to further the company’s mission to improve the wellbeing of Canadians. Prior to this role, he spent eight years on the Board of Medavie and was President and CEO of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunication Association of Canada. He sits on boards of several companies and organizations, and was Past Chair of the Board of the Ontario Power Generation. Mr. Lord served as Premier of New Brunswick from 1999 to 2006 and is a member of the Order of New Brunswick and the Order of Moncton.

Dr. Sarah Newbery, Assistant Dean, Physician Workforce Strategy, Northern Ontario School of Medicine
Dr. Sarah-Lynn Newbery, has been a rural physician in comprehensive community practice in Marathon since 1996 and is currently the Asst. Dean of Physician Workforce Strategy for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. She has held several formal leadership roles in the health care system including Chief of Staff of the North of Superior Health Care Group, VP Clinical for the Northwest LHIN and is a past President of the Ontario College of Family Physicians.
She is passionate about access to care for citizens of Canada’s rural communities and loves the professional work of being a comprehensive family physician in rural practice.
Lisa Purdy, Senior Partner, National Health Practice, Deloitte Canada
Lisa is a senior partner in Consulting, bringing her expertise specifically to the Life Sciences & Health Care practice. She brings extensive experience delivering strategy, governance, operations and digital solutions to individual, regional and provincial health organizations. Her deep understanding of health system issues includes sustainability levers, service provider operations, alternative service delivery models, technology enablement opportunities and overarching system transformation considerations.
Chris Wilson, Senior Vice President, Home Health Eastern Canada, CBI Health Group
Chris Wilson is the Senior Vice President, Home Health, for Eastern Canada for CBI Health, the largest community based healthcare provider in Canada. She began her career as a home visiting Occupational Therapist and has been working in the sector for 30 years in increasingly senior roles. Chris has worked within both the private and public sectors, joining CBI Health in 2016 as the Senior Director, and taking on the Vice President role in 2018. She has accountability for an extensive range of services across much of Ontario and in the Greater Halifax Region, supporting thousands of staff to provide care every day.
Chris is highly involved in healthcare transformation in Ontario, supporting a business that is affiliated with 33 developing Ontario Health Teams. Chair of the Board for Home Care Ontario, she is seen as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the sector, providing input to the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health on the critical role that home care plays in supporting other parts of the health sector.
Erik Sande, President, Medavie Health Services
Erik Sande’s career has spanned a variety of industries, including healthcare, financial services, energy, and communications. He has significant experience and expertise leading high growth technology and healthcare service companies across Canada, the US and International markets.
Erik Sande is the President of Medavie Health Services where he leads a team of healthcare professionals delivering out-of-hospital emergency medical services and home-based primary care across six Canadian provinces. Prior to this, Erik was Vice President and General Manager of Home Monitoring Solutions for Philips Healthcare where he led a technology and services team in North America, Europe and Asia.
A dedicated community leader, he has participated on numerous boards and currently sits on the board of the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement. He is also Chair of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
