Dr. Ben Chan, MD, MPH, MPA Chief Executive Officer of Ontario's Health Quality Council |
| Dr. Ben Chan began his full-time duties as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Health Quality Council in November 2007. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Chan was the CEO of the Health Quality Council (HQC) in Saskatchewan. During his tenure there, Dr. Chan’s organization conducted public reporting on a broad basket of quality indicators and implemented quality improvement programs aimed at improving chronic disease management; reducing waiting times in cancer care, emergency departments and family practice; preventing adverse events in ICUs; and improving drug management in seniors. In 2006, the HQC received the Saskatchewan Health Excellence Award for its pioneering work, and Dr. Chan was named Canada’s Outstanding Young Health Executive by the Canadian College of Health Service Executives, and Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by Victoria College, University of Toronto. | |

Michael B. Decter Chair of Wait Time Data Certification Council for Ontario |
| Michael B. Decter is a Harvard trained economist with over two decades of experience as a senior manager. He is a leading Canadian expert on health systems, with a wealth of international experience. In 2003, he was appointed as founding Chair of the Health Council of Canada. As a senior manager in the public sector, Michael served as Deputy Minister of Health for Ontario. He also served as Cabinet Secretary in the Government of Manitoba.Most recently, Michael was the Chair of the Canadian Institute for Health Information. He continues to serve as Chair of Saint Elizabeth Health Care, and the Ontario Cancer Quality Council. He is a Board Member of The National Ballet of Canada and George Brown College as well as part of the Advisory Council at the School of Policy Studies, Queen’s University. In 2004, Michael was awarded the Order of Canada. | |
