Media Advisory - 2017 Nutrition and Health Symposium Celebrating Women's Health

National symposium explores important aspects related to nutrition and women's health and recognizes milk and milk products as important contributor to women's health

MONTREAL, Sept. 26, 2017 /CNW/ - Leading academics and researchers will gather next week to assist women with some of the challenges they may face with respect to their health and overall well-being in a series of cross-Canada symposia entitled "Celebrating Women's Health". The issues pertaining to women and their place in society have gained more attention in today's political context. Their health issues are of great interest to a large portion of the Canadian population. Women have unique health challenges and milk and milk products are important contributor not only to their health, but to that of all Canadians.

This event will bring four experts to Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, and Moncton to shed light on issues related to bone and muscle health, sports and exercise as well as weight bias with the latest scientific breakthroughs in these fields. It is expected to attract approximately 2,500 dietitians and health professionals who are frequently called upon to provide advice on women's health issues.

The panellists include:

  • Angela Alberga, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Exercise Science, Concordia University: "Addressing weight bias and stigma in health care"
  • Stéphanie Chevalier, PhD, RD, Assistant Professor, Department of Medecine and Associate Member, School of Human Nutrition, McGill University: "Protein nutrition for optimal muscle health and function in older years"
  • Kelsey Mangano, PhD, RD, Assistant Professor, Nutrition Program Director, Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences, University of Massachusetts, Lowell: "Nutrition and bone health across the lifespan"
