Kaiser Foundation Announces Call for Nominations for 2011 National Awards for Excellence Program in Mental Health and Addictions Initiatives

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 14, 2010) - The Kaiser Foundation is pleased to announce the Call for Nominations for the 2011 National Awards for Excellence Program in mental health and addictions initiatives.

The National Awards for Excellence Program honours the outstanding work being done by Canadian organizations, communities, individuals and media who are engaged in the fields of mental health and addictions. Each award recipient receives a $10,000 grant to be directed to a recognized charity of their choice.

Nominations are solicited widely from across Canada. Submissions are reviewed by the National Awards for Excellence Program Secretariat comprised of individuals working in the fields of addictions and mental health.

Recommendations are then forwarded to the Kaiser Foundation's National Awards Program Advisory Board for final selection of the Award recipients.

There are seven award categories:

--  Excellence in Indigenous Programming
--  Excellence in Community Programming
--  Excellence in Leadership
--  Excellence in Media Reporting
--  Excellence in Mental Health and Substance Use Programming
--  Excellence in Public Policy
--  Excellence in Youth Leadership

Celebrating its fifth year, the National Awards for Excellence Program was launched by The Kaiser Foundation in partnership with a growing roster of governments, foundations, corporate and private national partners across the country. This commitment to recognizing outstanding achievements in dealing with mental health, addictions and related issues demonstrates that national leadership recognizes the importance of dealing openly with these complex issues.

The deadline for Award submissions is November 30, 2010. Complete details about the National Awards for Excellence Program and nomination forms may be obtained by visiting the Foundation website: www.kaiserfoundation.ca

The Kaiser Foundation was founded 25 years ago by businessman and philanthropist, Edgar Kaiser Jr. A national organization dedicated to helping those living with addiction and mental illness, the Kaiser Foundation raises awareness and knowledge about mental health and addiction issues as health issues, not moral issues. The Foundation's mission lies in the dissemination and application of research, innovation and information of sustainable, evidenced based "best practices" with those individuals and groups working in the field.
