New Immunization Program approved by Alberta College of Pharmacists

TORONTO, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - The Immunization Competencies Education Program on www.AdvancingPractice.com was recently approved by the Alberta College of Pharmacists.

There are three components that, together, meet the standards of the "Guidelines and Criteria for Injection and Immunization Continuing Education Programs for Alberta Pharmacists":

  • "Immunization Certificate Education Program" (CCCEP file number 1066-2010-092-I-P, 14.5 CEU);
  • "Immunization Competencies Education Program. Practical Administration of Injections" (CCCEP file number 1129-2011-198-B-P , 4 CEU); and
  • "Immunization Competencies Education Program - Alberta Guidelines Module" (ACP file number AB11-001, 1 CEU).

Pharmacists who successfully complete all three components may apply to the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) for authorization to administer drugs by injection. Interested pharmacists are encouraged to visit the ACP website for more information.

About Immunization Competencies Education Program
Developed by the Canadian Paediatric Society, the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada, the Immunization Competencies Education Program (ICEP) provides participants with an in-depth review of the Immunization Competencies for Health Professionals and training required by immunization/injection providers.

ICEP consists of 14 CCCEP-accredited online learning modules with an optional practical 4-hour live training component. Mirroring the reality of frontline providers, these 14 modules have been developed and reviewed by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and pharmacists.
