The Ottawa Hospital in Canada Joins University HealthSystem Consortium as an International Member

OAK BROOK, Ill., April 26, 2011 /CNW/ -- University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) welcomed The Ottawa Hospital (TOH), a 1,240-bed facility located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as its second international full member; The Health Roundtable Limited in Australia was the first.

"On behalf of UHC's members and staff, I am delighted to welcome this progressive Canadian hospital into membership. The Ottawa Hospital serves patients with a number of specialty centers, including cancer, heart, kidney, vision care, women's health, and rehabilitation services, and provides care to 1.2 million people--more patients than any other hospital in Canada," said Irene M. Thompson, UHC president and chief executive officer.

TOH has a partnership with the University of Ottawa and is a bilingual multicampus health sciences center with more than 12,000 employees, 1,350 physicians, and 2,000 volunteers.

"The Ottawa Hospital's goals to become a top performer in quality and patient safety are aligned with those of UHC. We continue to help our members achieve new levels of leadership in quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness. It is clear that The Ottawa Hospital has a strong commitment to achieving high performance throughout the organization," Ms. Thompson added.
