15th World Congress highlights advances in reproductive medicine
Montreal, May 20, 2011 – The 15th McGill Symposium on Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility and Women’s Health, the 5th World Congress on IVM (in vitro maturation) and 1st International Consensus Conference on IVM will bring together the world's leading researchers, clinicians, embryologists and support staff in the field of human fertility.
The three scientific congresses will review an array of major scientific breakthroughs and new clinical procedures in the areas of assisted reproduction. Internationally renowned experts will present the latest information and updates on a wide range of topics including stem-cell research, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, minimally-invasive surgery, implantation, endometriosis, male infertility, in-vitro maturation of oocytes and fertility preservation.
The congress will mark the outstanding achievements and contributions of Professor Seang Lin Tan, founding Director of the McGill Reproductive Centre, in the fields of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. The congress will welcome a faculty of pre-eminent speakers who have been teachers, mentors, colleagues and trainees of Professor Tan over the years. It will serve as an exclusive platform for these experts to share and compare experiences. Furthermore, in recognition of the ever-increasing role that IVM is playing in ART (assisted reproductive technology) practice, the very First International Consensus Meeting will be held during the congress to discuss its application and standardization of practice.
“As assisted reproductive technologies continue be in high demand and the science itself is advancing rapidly and growing in complexity, these congresses will provide the ideal forum to share and exchange knowledge in this field on a multidisciplinary and international scale,” said Dr. Seang Lin Tan, current Medical Director of the Montreal Reproductive Center, James Edmund Dodds Professor, founding Director of the McGill Reproductive Centre, and former Chair of McGill University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Amongst the latest advances in ART covered in these congresses, include the results of mandated single embryo transfer, new methods of genetic screening of embryos, cross border fertility treatment including for egg donation, and the latest advances on IVM and fertility preservation for medical and social reasons.
In addition to discussions related to the ethical and social aspects of assisted reproductive technologies, the congress will also feature the participation of several patients whose lives have been greatly improved by assisted reproductive technology.
