Release of 2011 Report Card on Wait Times in Canada

OTTAWA, June 16, 2011 - On June 21, the Wait Time Alliance (WTA) will release its 6th annual Report Card, giving Canadians a picture of how long they have to wait to access a broad range of medical care. This year's report highlights the impact of alternate-levels-of-care (ALC) stays on wait times for both emergency and elective/scheduled care.

The 2011 report card will also include data on access to treatments and procedures beyond the five priority areas targeted by First Ministers in 2004.

Details from the report card will be discussed during a technical briefing for media via teleconference. They include:

  • grading of progress in the original five priority areas and others, using WTA benchmarks;
  • grading of provincial wait-time reporting;
  • analysis of the impact of alternate-levels-of-care (ALC) stays on wait times.
