Citizen report on future of health care in Ontario debuts June 22

28 citizens add their voice to 13 top health issues

TORONTO, June 17, 2011 /CNW/ - A media tele-conference will be held on Wednesday June 22 at 10 a.m. to launch a unique report on the future of health care in Ontario, featuring the views of a 28-member Citizens' Reference Panel.

The panel was established by the professional services firm PwC to discuss and provide recommendations on Ontario's health care system. The sessions were facilitated by MASS LBP, a Toronto-based firm specializing in public engagement.

Says Barbara Pitts, PwC's national health care leader and chair of the initiative: "A citizens' panel is a new approach to public consultation that adds representation from across the province, from people that are clients and end-users of health care in Ontario. This report provides a fresh perspective to these challenging policy issues."

The Citzens' Reference Panel met over three weekends from April to June—a total of more than 55 hours of deliberations—culminating in this report that will be shared with senior health care officials in the province.

The report provides recommendations on such issues as access and timelines; primary care; information sharing and e-Health; accountability and incentives; disease prevention; health promotion; pharmaceuticals and mental health/addiction.

To register for the tele-conference and for dial-in # access, contact David Rowney of PwC at 416-365-8858 or david.rowney@ca.pwc.com.
