NexJ Introduces Health Exchange Solution

NexJ Health Exchange enables seamless bi-directional interoperability between electronic medical record systems and clinical applications

Toronto (September 13, 2011) — NexJ Systems Inc., (TSX: NXJ), a leading provider of enterprise private cloud software today announced the release of the NexJ Health Exchange solution. The NexJ Health Exchange provides the tools, technology, and functionality required to achieve interoperability and maximize information sharing, so healthcare practitioners can focus on increasing the quality, safety, and effectiveness of patient care.

“Healthcare organizations have many standalone clinical and electronic health record systems that need to be connected,” said Oz Huner, Vice President, Health Solutions, NexJ Systems Inc. “The NexJ Health Exchange brings these silos of information together so that healthcare providers can access information across the continuum of care, leveraging a unique platform that is fast to implement, flexible to configure, easy to integrate, and scalable to support the largest of healthcare organizations.”

The market for HIE solutions is evolving quickly as organizations seek to demonstrate interoperability between systems and qualify for the approximately $20 billion in incentive payments for healthcare IT under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  Connectivity is the first step in demonstrating meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs), and thus qualifying for incentive payments under the ARRA. Organizations that fail to demonstrate meaningful use by 2015 not only miss out on the incentives but will face penalties in the form of reduced Medicare and Medicaid payments.

The NexJ Health Exchange is differentiated by its model-driven engineering (MDE) architecture which facilitates the integration of disparate systems.  MDE allows organizations to leave systems and data in place and configure bi-directional interoperability in order to leverage the valuable information in their existing infrastructure without having to move data or upgrade systems.

Additionally, NexJ’s integrated development platform, NexJ Studio, facilitates quick and efficient tailoring of the NexJ Health Exchange solution so that healthcare organizations can adapt to changing regulations and requirements. No two healthcare organizations have the same system requirements so NexJ Studio simplifies the creation and maintenance of interfaces by providing prebuilt adapters for standard message formats, document formats and terminology that can be easily leveraged with little coding in order to meet unique needs.

“The NexJ Health Exchange leverages NexJ’s unique model-driven engineering architecture and supports a wide array of industry standards to deliver the interoperability required for healthcare organizations need to meet the meaningful use objectives,” said Paul DeVriendt, Senior Vice President of Product, NexJ Systems. “NexJ is committed to applying our advanced technology to assist healthcare organizations in their efforts to connect their systems and deliver superior patient care.”

The NexJ Health Exchange has already received industry acclaim as a deployment of the solution at the Black Creek Community Health Center was recognized by Computerworld with a 2011 Honors Laureate award for promoting and advancing public welfare.  To learn more about the NexJ Health Exchange solution please download the brochure.
