Shooting at Dawson College, four years later…

Research on psychological impact sheds light on post-traumatic disorders

Montreal, September 9, 2010 – A research team from the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and Centre de recherche Fernand-Seguin (Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine) will present the results of its three-year study, of the 2006 Dawson College shooting. The results will be presented to the Government of Quebec's Minister of Public Security.

Close to 1,000 students and employees attending or working at the College at the time of the tragedy were involved in this groundbreaking study, a world’s first.

Members of the media are invited to attend a news conference to announce the results of the study, including recommendations to educational institutions, hospitals, social services and the government, and the proposal of a province-wide intervention program that would provide appropriate psychological support, evaluation and coordination.

A question and answer period for media will follow the presentation.
