In-house medical expertise for Accreditation Canada

OTTAWA, Jan. 18 /CNW/ - Accreditation Canada welcomes in-house medical expertise with the appointments of Dr. Gerarda Cronin and Dr. Louise Clément. Drs. Cronin and Clément will provide input and advice about clinical components of the accreditation program and offer guidance as the physician and clinical surveyor teams expand. They will also liaise with medical associations and universities on research and curriculum issues related to accreditation.

Dr. Cronin is the Director of Quality and Decision Support for the Child Health Program at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. She chaired the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Standards Committee from 2002 to 2007 and was the physician lead for the development of WRHA's award-winning Integrated Risk Management framework. She has been a surveyor with Accreditation Canada since 2002.

Dr. Clément is a medical advisor to the CHUM Centre-ville project, holding the positions of clinical advisor on technological transitions and physician involved in care for the elderly. She has 10 years' experience in emergency department medicine and taught at the faculty of medicine at the University of Montreal. Dr. Clément has been a surveyor with Accreditation Canada since 2003 and a member of both the Physician Advisory Committee and the Program Advisory Committee since 2006.

"The wealth of knowledge that these two individuals offer, along with their unique combination of surveyor, medical, and quality improvement expertise, will be a great asset to the continued improvement of Accreditation Canada's programs and services," said Wendy Nicklin, President and CEO, Accreditation Canada.

Accreditation Canada (www.accreditation.ca) is a not-for-profit, independent organization that provides national and international health and social service organizations with an external peer review to assess the quality of their services based on standards of excellence. Accredited by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), Accreditation Canada's programs and guidance have helped thousands of organizations strive for excellence since 1958.
