Ontario Doctors Expand Reach of Health Promotion Campaigns with CBC Partnership

TORONTO, Jan. 18 /CNW/ - Ontario's doctors are pleased to announce their partnership with CBC's Live Right Now movement which aims to encourage Canadians to make healthier choices and live healthier lives.

"Ontario's doctors are long-time advocates for healthy living. On a daily basis, we see patients who are struggling with the effects of obesity and chronic diseases, many of which are preventable," said Dr. Mark MacLeod, President of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA). "The Live Right Now initiative provides an exciting opportunity to reach more of our patients with the message that they can make incremental changes to their lifestyle to benefit their health."

Ontario's doctors have championed health promotion issues in the province and have advocated for the health and well-being of patients on a variety of issues including:

  • Educating consumers to better understand calorie intake as it impacts obesity and chronic diseases;
  • Reducing tobacco dependence and eliminating exposure to second-hand smoke; and
  • Increasing the public's awareness of food allergies in an effort to protect our children.

Physicians from across the province will share their perspective and provide helpful tips on how people can improve their health. The "Doctor's Office" features a blog that will appear weekly as part of the Live Right Now programming and will cover a wide range of health topics that will be of interest to many people looking to make healthier choices.

"The Live Right Now movement is about building communities of support to help Canadians achieve their health goals, and we could not make it a success without the support of all of our great partners like Ontario's doctors," said Kirstine Stewart, Executive Vice-President, English Services, CBC. "That's why we've been so gratified and energized by the OMA's recognition of our efforts, because doctors as community leaders and health promoters are such an important part of what we are trying to achieve."
