Health & Healthcare News

The Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation is now the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME)

Welcome to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, the University of Toronto’s newest Institute.

Previously a Department in the Faculty of Medicine, our new status as an extra departmental unit (EDU:A) recognizes our accomplishments in interdisciplinary teaching and research and creates new possibilities for the future.

IHPME’s graduate research degree programs and professional degree programs are uniquely interdisciplinary with a focus on evidence-informed decision-making—an approach well suited to preparing leaders for a complex and rapidly changing health care landscape.

Our health services, clinical epidemiology and health care research provides valuable new insights and approaches to make our health care system efficient, effective and sustainable.

New possibilities for the future
At IHPME we are strongly committed to a collaborative approach.

Our new status as an Institute will allow us to further enhance our interdisciplinary strengths and formalize collaborations with our academic, research and policy partners across UofT and beyond the University. The Faculty of Medicine remains our lead faculty and a new formalized reporting relationship with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health will build on our long history of partnership.

We will see other benefits, too. As an Institute, we can look forward to a higher level of visibility for our outstanding educational programs and our leading-edge research. Learn more about this change in status.

Canada’s health care system faces enormous challenges. At IHPME, we’re committed to providing the innovative leadership, strong research and collaborative approach required to deliver solutions.
