Longwoods Online
PROFILE: AT WORK
Longwoods publishes academic, scientific and professional journals focused on healthcare and allied services. The journals are supplemented by weekly eletters, an extensive social media program and a complete library of back issues.
The HealthcareBoard produces related learning programs to translate and further disseminate research, ideas and leading practices in support of providers, managers, and policy makers of healthcare and health services. Leaders from the system share their individual and corporate practices and know-how at one-hour sessions dubbed Breakfast with the Chiefs. More extensive coverage is provided at all-day conferences known as HealthcareRounds. Individual think tanks are routinely set up to ensure we are current and understand the priorities of the healthcare system
Both the publishing group and the board collaborate with universities, institutes, societies, academic health sciences centres, think tanks and individual healthcare providers and policy makers. Board membership is international and includes institutional, individual and corporate members focused on knowledge translation using both publishing and learning tools.

PERSONAL CONTEXT
Born in Oog in Al the Netherlands. Came to Canada with parents and six siblings in the early 50s. Has called Toronto home since 1969. As a preteen earned his keep by picking the summer tomato crop for H. J. Heinz and winning regional public speaking honors for school and county. For years had Gestetner ink-stained fingers from publishing all church publications for his cleric father - part of a stoic Calvinist upbringing and schooling. Baccalaureate education (Calvin College, Economics) that is best remembered for living and working and schooling in the inner city of Grand Rapids Michigan during the American inner city riots of the sixties. Began a communications and corporate marketing career at Bristol Myers Products and Canadian technology innovator - Urban Transportation Development Corporation. Founded a corporate communications company in 1985: served General Motors, Arthur Anderson, Saudi Traders, the Learning Company, Governments, Newcourt Financial, Softkey and Rio Algom Mining. This initiative evolved into Longwoods Publishing Corporation which launched (in collaboration with Dr. Peggy Leatt) its first journal in 1997.
Look for Anton at auctions and markets in search of art and books. He supports emerging artists, prefers vintage clothing, mission oak and wind-up watches while favoring the music of Glenn Gould, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Michael Kaeshammer - all of which finds him in tune with one daughter, five sons and their children.

Its Nov. 2017 -- I have been retired for some time now but don't think for a moment that I've lost interest in Longwoods, my family of siblings and my own family with 5 young men and 1 leading lady. Online publishing will continue to be my passion. If you have any ideas email me at ahart@longwoods.com. I'll respond.
