Enhancement of Social Participation: Developing Bio-Ethical Analysis Skills Among Youth

Abstract
This paper positions bioethics in the context of contemporary culture with emphasis on constraints derived from techno-scientific progress in development. It then describes an experience in Chile using comics as communicational and motivational devices for posing scientific issues presenting bioethical dilemmas. Since bioethics are based upon dialogue, there are problems associated with moral pluralism and knowledge differences which can be approached through illustrative cases in the history of science and narrated with the aid of characters and situations that interest youngsters aged 12 to 17 years (gender diversity, computer, and electronic media). Experience included research and presentation of five classical cases, preparation and discussion of scripts, drawing of stories and repeated legibility tests in different groups. This educational material has complementary character in relation to more formal teaching aids, particularly relevant for the purpose of increasing motivation and facilitating social participation.
