The percentage of U.S. adults in 2006 who looked for health information online sometimes or often increased while the percentage who found the information reliable decreased, according to a survey by Harris Interactive in American Medical News.

Fifty-two percent of respondents in 2006 said they discussed the information with a physician, compared with 57% in 2005. Forty-five percent of respondents in 2006 said they searched for medical information based on a discussion they had with their physician, down from 52% in 2005.

According to the survey, 80% of respondents in 2006 said they looked for health information online, up from 72% in 2005.

Results are from a July survey of 1,020 adults.
