Sixty-four per cent of U.S. adults would like access to an electronic health record, yet just 2% of adults currently use EHRs, according to a Harris Interactive/Wall Street Journal survey. The survey finds that 54% of respondents indicate that EHR use would impact to some extent or a great deal their physician choice.

Seventy-four percent of respondents say they would like the ability to communicate with their physician via e-mail, but only 4% of respondents currently use the technology, according the survey. Sixty-two percent of respondents say the ability to communicate via e-mail with their physician would impact their physician choice "to some extent" or "a great deal."

Results are based on a survey of 2,624 U.S. adults conducted from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7.
