[This article was originally published in Electronic Healthcare , Volume 7, Number 2.]Health information and information technology professionals intuitively sense that the broad implementation of standardized processes and interoperable information technology throughout the health system is a good thing. We present a quantitative model that compares the financial costs and benefits of Ontario investing in standards-based interoperability versus integration that is not standards based.
