Abstract
Certain themes emerge clearly from the authors' contributions in this issue of HealthcarePapers . The most prevalent theme is collaboration, which is discussed in the featured article and in all the invited commentaries. The overall goal of collaboration in the context of this issue relates to responding to emerging health human resources (HHR) needs by taking a macro-level view of a complex system of interrelated components, whose ultimate outcome is the provision of healthcare. Taking a systems view requires recognition of the overall system pressures, along with the unique needs, roles and value of each collaborator.
