Is Business Intelligence (including Analytics) Having an Impact on the Delivery of Care?
Abstract
Organizations in industries outside healthcare have been able to demonstrate the successful application of Business Intelligence (BI) and analytical tools to gain a competitive advantage. Within the healthcare industry, organizations are successfully using BI and analytical tools to support their financial and operational functions. With the adoption of electronic health records and other investments in health information technology, there is potential for these tools to transform clinical care. This paper explores the degree to which BI and Analytics are having an impact on the delivery of care and presents some thoughts on where BI could have the greatest impact in the future. It also explores some of the challenges organizations are facing in maximizing return on these investments.
