Abstract

[This paper is a commentary on Collaborative Practice in Health Systems Change: The Nova Scotia Experience with the Strengthening Primary Care Initiative by Ruth Martin-Misener, John McNab, Ingrid S. Sketris and Lynn Edwards.]

The challenges and insights described in Martin-Misener et al.'s efforts to further primary healthcare reform in Canada's evolving healthcare system, and simultaneously introduce the role of nurse practitioners (NPs), resonate clearly with the Alberta and Capital Health experiences. Both issues are currently at the heart of national debates that are playing out on provincial and other jurisdictional stages. Often, it seems the discussion of one topic runs quickly into the other.
