In response to numerous requests last week, we have extended the abstract submission deadline for the Canadian Obesity Summit to November 19th. So far, several hundred abstracts have been submitted and it is already evident that the Summit will feature the best and latest obesity research from across Canada (and globally).

Recently, I also asked you to consider making a small donation to sustain CON-RCO. More than two years ago, the network’s federal funding via the Networks of Centres of Excellence program expired. As a broad, multidisciplinary knowledge translation and networking platform, we have found that CON-RCO is not an easy fit for other funding mechanisms. And, while the network has been supported by some excellent partners, those funds have already gone into daily operations and programs to date.

Many members have already stepped forward and generously made a gift. Others wrote to say that they are organizing local fundraisers for the network. Everyone at the CON-RCO office were very touched by the outpouring of your enthusiasm and support. If you have not yet had a chance to make a donation – and you believe that Canada needs a network of professionals from across disciplines and sectors if we are to address the obesity epidemic – perhaps you can take a minute to do so now.

Your support will help CON-RCO to continue doing what it does best: putting the needs of Canadians living with excess weight first.

Arya M. Sharma,
Scientific Director, CON-RCO
