Fact and Stats
Thirty-four percent of US hospitals report that they can meet five to nine core objectives for Stage 1 of the “meaningful use” incentive payment program, according to a new HIMSS Analytics survey.
Under Stage 1 of the meaningful use program, hospitals need to meet 14 core objectives, such as using CPOE for at least 80% of all orders, implementing and enabling drug-drug, drug-allergy, drug- formulary interaction functionality and recording demographics, n addition to five objectives from a menu of 10 options, such as implementing drug-formulary checks and sending reminders to patients for preventive/ follow up care.
Other findings in this initial data set include:
- Nearly one quarter (22 %) of participating hospitals have the capability to achieve 10 or more of the required core measures in the meaningful use Stage 1 requirements.
- Some 34 % of respondents have the capability to achieve between five and nine of the core measures for meaningful use.
- Just over 40 percent (40.47 %) of the market indicated they have the capability to meet five or more of the menu items for meaningful use.
According to the survey, 40.47% of respondents can meet five or more menu requirements, while 16% can meet three to four menu measures.
Results are based on a survey of 687 hospitals conducted prior to release of the final rule on meaningful use in July 2010.
