Majority of the public go online for healthcare information: 60% of U.S adults have done so in the last month, and the number of those who do so often have increased, according to a recent poll conducted by Harris Interactive. For the poll, researchers interviewed 1,019 U.S. adults by telephone between August 9 and August 15. They found that the number of respondents, who say that they believe the information they obtained was reliable has risen to 90% this year from 87% and 85% in the two previous years.
In addition, the poll found that:
- 39% of respondents said that they “often” went online to search for health information, up from 22% in 2009 and 32% in 2010.
- 69% of respondents said they had used search engines in the past month to find health information,
- 62% of respondents said they used medical websites during the past month to look up health data; and
- 55% of respondents said they had talked with their physicians about information they obtained on the Internet.
