The OCC encourages greater public/private collaboration through a commissioning approach

The second report within our Health Transformation Initiative, Prescription for Partnership, points to the need for health care stakeholders, both public and private, to put patients first. This report takes a closer look at the role commissioning can play in re-orienting a system that too often operates in response to budgetary pressure.

Commissioning is an evidence-based approach to health care service design, procurement, and delivery that prioritizes patient outcomes and encourages collaboration between all stakeholders. It works by getting the government to define the needs it wants to meet first, then seeking innovative solutions in partnership with experienced outsiders. This approach enables innovation in access, quality, and cost that can have a positive impact across the entire health care system.
