From CIHI

As a point of entry to the health care system, Canadian family physicians occupy an important place. For this reason, patients’ access to family physicians is of great importance, and gaining a better understanding of the factors that can influence whether or not a family physician accepts new patientsi is critical in terms of understanding and addressing issues associated with patients’ access to primary health care. There are two natural perspectives on access to family physicians: that of physicians and that of patients. CIHI’s Analysis in Brief Experiences With Primary Health Care in Canada1 analyzed data from the 2008 Canadian Survey of Experiences With Primary Health Care to examine the patient’s perspective. This report looks at access from the physician’s perspective.
