Dear Friends and Colleagues

I am writing to let you know that I will be launching a new release, as we say in the IT business, in my life later this summer.  I am stepping down  as President and CEO of Canada Health Infoway, effective August 1, 2014 (see the message from Infoway Board Chair attached for your information).  I am grateful for being given the opportunity to have led this great organization over the past ten years and particularly proud of our accomplishments and the positive impact we have had on Canada’s Health Care system.

At the moment, the code for the next release in life remains unwritten, but it will undoubtedly include Board and advisory work together with the opportunity to coach young aspiring executives.  Of course, if all of this fails, I will have to re-boot and revert to just playing golf!

In closing, I want to thank the many great leaders and colleagues who I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with during my career.  I am grateful for your friendship and support and look forward to staying in touch with each and every one of you.

Warm personal regards,

Richard

Announcement from Graham Scott

As Chair of Canada Health Infoway’s Board of Directors, I am writing with great regret to advise you that Richard Alvarez has decided to step down from his role as President and CEO on August 1, 2014.

Richard has been an extraordinary CEO for Infoway over the last decade. His leadership has shaped its strong culture, built collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the country, and achieved important results for Canadians.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to express my deep appreciation to Richard for ensuring that Infoway is in a sound and stable position, setting the stage for further innovation in digital health in the years ahead. As part of his legacy, Richard leaves us with a timely and innovative strategy to guide this work and a strong and resilient team to carry our mission forward.

Infoway, and Canada, owe a debt of thanks to Richard. His vision for improving Canadians’ health and health care, his passion for our country, and his commitment to positive change have made a tremendous impact from coast to coast. Globally, he has been a true ambassador for the role that digital health can play in transforming health care. Many of our international counterparts have benefited from Richard’s inspiring approach, collaborative style, and sound strategic advice.

While we will miss Richard at Infoway, we thank him deeply for his many contributions and wish him all the best with the life changes he wishes to make as he moves on to pursue a range of personal interests.

As one chapter closes, another begins. Infoway’s Board of Directors is beginning the search for a new President and CEO who will lead the next phase of the organization’s journey.

Graham W. S. Scott, C.M., Q.C. Board Chair, Canada Health Infoway
