FACTS AND STATS

Fifty percent of CIO's view reducing medical errors and promoting patient safety as their top IT priority today. According to the 2006 HIMSS Leadership Survey, this is closely followed by implementing an EMR (45%), with connecting IT at hospital and remote locations (36%) and process/workflow redesign (35%) nearly tied for next. Somewhat surprising were the number replacing/upgrading inpatient clinical systems (29%) and designing/implanting strategic IT plan (28%). Respondents could identify their top five priorities.
