Mohawk Shared Services and Medbuy Corporation Collaborate to Provide an End-to-End Supply Chain Solution

November 12, 2009

(Burlington, ON/London, ON): Responding to the emerging needs of the Ontario healthcare market, Medbuy Corporation, Canada’s leading healthcare Group Purchasing Organization, and Mohawk Shared Services’ Mohawk Supply Chain Services Division, southern Ontario’s most progressive Shared Services Organization, today announced plans to work more closely together to accelerate identified savings potential for their joint Member healthcare facilities. Initial estimates target in excess of $80 million in new contracts. These opportunities are expected to grow substantially as the two groups continue to work together.

“Since Mohawk Supply Chain Services was first conceived, Medbuy has been a strong supporter of its direction and vision to support healthcare and the communities they serve,” says Rick Cochrane, President and CEO of Medbuy. “We are now at a point where we are able to dovetail each of the services we provide to deliver a comprehensive approach to supply chain management. The goal of the collaboration between Medbuy and Mohawk is to provide a total supply chain solution to Members as well as other Ontario hospitals and healthcare organizations wanting to maximize supply chain efficiencies and savings to deliver exceptional patient care.”

The enhanced relationship between Medbuy and Mohawk is designed to provide a greater scope of service, maximize efficiencies in the system, develop new approaches to supplier management and ultimately reshape the way healthcare organizations view this emerging key aspect of the healthcare continuum. The new strategy incorporates the existence of a warehouse facility and an accelerated contract RFP process.

“By working together, we see an opportunity to realize savings and pass them to the front lines at a much more accelerated rate,” notes Tony Di Emanuele, President and CEO of Mohawk Shared Services Inc. “We see a tremendous opportunity for the vendor community to work with us to eliminate inefficiencies due to the current process in place and pass on those savings to our healthcare facilities so they can redirect them towards patient care programs.”

Among the services provided by the Medbuy/Mohawk collaboration are data management, strategic sourcing, rebate management, savings reporting, procurement, contract management, logistics, warehousing and pandemic supply.
