Quebec nurses’ order says their skills are underutilized in the health care system

Nurses’ skills are being underutilized in the health care system, said Quebec’s Nurses’ Order (OIIQ) on Thursday.
It argues that night nurses are being employed to their full potential, compared to day nurses in the same facility.
On average, the OIIQ states that 40 per cent of the activities performed by Quebec’s 86,000 nurses could be performed by another professional, such as a nursing assistant or patient attendant.
“If we want to improve access, which is the Achilles heel of our system, we need to maximize this potential,” said OIIQ president Luc Mathieu.
There are variations in nursing practice across the province.
