Manitoba’s plan for changes to the health-care system, which it says will improve patient safety, has garnered mixed reactions from advocates and experts.
Tuesday’s speech from the throne promised to end mandatory overtime for health-care workers, implement staff-to-patient ratios in priority areas, and create a patient safety charter "enshrining into law your right to good health care."
But many say the system still doesn’t have enough health-care professionals to support changes in legislation.
"We're almost jumping the gun here," Manitoba Nurses Union president Darlene Jackson told CBC News, arguing more nurses are needed if the province wants to eliminate mandatory overtime hours.
