Saskatoon City Hospital: From early care to modern health hub

SASKATOON — Did you know that Saskatoon’s hospital history began with small private facilities? Major health-care institutions didn’t evolve until the early 1900s. The St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation website history link notes that in 1907 the first hospital opened in Dr. Willoughby’s home. The City of Saskatoon’s heritage link also points out that Nurse Elizabeth Arnold ran a private hospital for typhoid patients in the early 1900s and later became Arnold’s Maternity Hospital.
Saskatoon’s City Hospital opened in 1909, with significant additions in the 1920s and 1930s. This health-care facility underwent construction and the opening of a brand-new building in 1993, located on Queen Street.
