Michelle DiEmanuele appointed President and CEO of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre

New CEO to lead the newly merged hospital in achieving its vision of becoming a leading, community-based academic health network that delivers the very best patient-centred care, closer to home.

Mississauga/West Toronto (February 1, 2012) – Today Alan Torrie, Board Chair of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre, announced that Michelle DiEmanuele has been appointed President and CEO of the newly merged hospital. In this role, Ms. DiEmanuele will be accountable to the Board of Directors for leadership of the new organization within the goals and directions established by the Board.  Her main priorities will be to continue to lead the delivery of outstanding patient care to the communities of Mississauga and West Toronto while leading the integration of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre.

“I’m very pleased that we’ve chosen Ms. DiEmanuele to lead the newly merged hospital. She is passionate about creating a better patient experience and she understands what it will take to make it happen in our community.  Ms. DiEmanuele has years of experience in transformational change and a track record of delivering results,” said Alan Torrie, Board Chair.  “I am extremely confident that under her leadership, The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre will deliver on the vision of continued leadership as a community-based academic health network that delivers the very best patient-centred care, closer to home.”

Ms. DiEmanuele is an innovative leader with extensive experience in driving higher levels of quality performance through effective change leadership.  Her breadth of public and private sector experience has provided an excellent foundation.  She was recently inducted into the Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Hall of Fame in recognition of her accomplishments in both the public and private sector in leading transformational change, creating and fostering innovation and improving services.

Most recently, Ms. DiEmanuele was President and CEO of The Credit Valley Hospital and served as the interim Administrator of newly-merged The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre, one of the largest community-based hospitals in Ontario. She has also held a number of senior leadership positions within the Provincial government including Associate Secretary of Cabinet and Assistant Deputy Minister of Health. Prior to that, Ms. DiEmanuele was Vice President, Branch and Small Business Banking, Retail Markets/Human Resources for CIBC and Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development for Brookfield Properties Ltd, one of Canada’s largest commercial property management companies.

Currently, Ms. DiEmanuele is an active member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Conference Board of Canada.  She is also a member of the OHA Physician Provincial Leadership Council.

“One of the primary aims of the new organization will be to increase access and help patients and their families navigate through the health system more easily. I believe Ms. DiEmanuele brings the right balance of strategic, operational and clinical knowledge to this position and can effectively lead our efforts in improving the patient experience across all three sites as we move forward with amalgamation,” said Dr. Gopal Bhatnagar, Chief of Staff, Trillium Health Centre site.

"An integral part of the vision for the new organization is providing the best patient care in a community-based, teaching centre, with increased capacity for applied clinical research.  Based on Ms DiEmanuele’s track record for fostering strong partnerships, which I have experienced firsthand, I have every confidence she will deliver on the vision she was instrumental in creating and keep the focus of amalgamation on keeping the one million residents of Mississauga and West Toronto well,” said Dr. Matt Gysler, Chief of Medical Staff, Credit Valley Hospital site.

The membership of the CEO selection committee, a special committee of the Board of Directors, reflected a balance of strategic, operational and clinical expertise and experience and was supported by a national search firm with in-depth knowledge of the health care sector.   CEO selection committee members included: Bill Rogers and Neil Skelding, Co-Chairs of the selection committee and former Board Chairs of the Trillium Health Centre and The Credit Valley Hospital respectively; Alan Torrie, current Board Chair; Jagoda Pike, former Board Chair; Fred Kuntz, Lee Stem, Karen Wensley, and Joanne Rogers, all current Board Members; Dr. Gopal Bhatnagar, Chief of Staff, Trillium Health Centre site; and Dr. Matt Gysler, Chief of Medical Staff, Credit Valley Hospital site.
