A new national report says roughly one out of every 10 people admitted to hospital in Canada is there because of the impact of substance use on their health.
The Canadian Substance Use Costs and Harms Healthcare 2017-2024 report found there were nearly 300,000 hospitalizations related to alcohol or drugs in 2024.
That represented 12 per cent of all hospitalizations in Canada.
The report was released by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction in partnership with the University of Victoria’s Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research.
